Jan Rowe, the BT operator, admits that she does not have personal knowledge of what happened on the line. She says the police were still monitoring the line when she went off-duty at 8.00 a.m., but she was not monitoring the line, so we don't know if they actually were or what 'monitoring the line' is supposed to mean.
